Almost 2 years out of University and 3 years of working PT/freelance and traveling. And life sured changed a a lot for me this year. Everything came crashing down on me this year...If I were to put it positively, I'd say life is throwing me challenges to toughen me up for the next phase of my life.

Oh well, whatever it is , it is like my second quarter life crisis. Quarter life crisis all over again. Just that this is much more serious than the first one, especially with the clock ticking faster than ever these days.

First adult heartbreak, end of my carefree traveling-spree days. I am now an official adult with a 'real' job, real responsibilities and finally saving up for the future. Okay, maybe just saving to move out. Everything changed so much in a year and I practically just jumped off the edge into this whirpool of workload. I have entered the robotic zone where I somehow realized that being independent and financially stable is utmost important now that I actually work abt 10 hours a day, 5 days a week. And give tuition for the entire day on Saturdays. I could have never imagine a life so routine and busy just a few months back. Teaching at my own timing and traveling whenever I am free were 2 of the best things I have done in my 20s. But I guess no matter how sad my new life seems, it was ME who chose this path. And I am actually happy about it. Hopeful at least.

I have entered a new phase in life where I just want something more stable, a goal and a future to work for. I have always wanted that as a child, but I lost my way somewhere along 'growing up'. You see there is a difference between having a job or going to school just for the sake of it and having something to work towards....towards a life you want for yourself...and nobody else. There is a difference between living and surviving. And I am right smacked in between those two. But at least I am going somewhere...

I am still a wanderer. Wanderlust never left me. But I guess I plan more than before because I acknowledge that whatever choices I make in the present will affect my future. Doing things just for the present was good for a while but it doesn't satisfy me now. Hanging out with meaningless people who do not really care for me is just not appealing. Aimless and empty activities are even more so a waste of time now at this stage of life. Partying and drinking almost seem like living in denial, something I do just to avoid reality. I love to drink and dance sometimes but the old lifestyle I had for more than a year is finally wearing me out. I want something real, something I can come home to everyday. Things, people and activities that make me feel good about myself. I want to grow, and grow a lot more this time. I want to come home after work everyday and watch a movie, read a book, blog, write or listen to some soothing music...maybe a personal spa treatment or aroma therapy. Exercise when I can. Eat well, live right. I am not perfect and I will never be.. Hell, I don't ever wanna be perfect! Perfect is boring and unrealistic. There is a difference between perfection and being a perfectionist. I thinkI am quite a perfectionist when it comes to things I care about but I am not perfect. I just wanna be the best person I can be for myself and my loved ones during each phase of my life. I know that nothing ever stays the same in this life or this world. One of the greatest lessons I have learned so far is that the tides WILL ALWAYS turn. Be stable, be sure but never be complacent or too comfortable or attached...cuz when someone gets hurt, you will be the one getting burned.

But growing up is inevitable. There comes a time when you have to face yourself and your problems right in the face and say,  'Yeah, I'm here. What's up? I ain't going anywhere, I will work through these problems and move forward. ' Then boom! Shit happens way too fast, you chose to be responsible but you have NO freaking idea what that encompasses. But there ain't no backing out now, You...I really mean I...have entered this new elite club and I am just gonna have to tough life out. But now that I am slowly getting the hang of my new lifestyle, I think I am different. I am a different happy...happy not because I am having adrenaline rushes or day dreaming. But happy because finally all those years spent in school seem to have a productive future. It seems like I am finally reaping what I sow and working towards a real future..a personal future void of family and friends. I don't mean I am cutting them out of my life...but finally I am doing something for myself by myself. And if all goes well, these people can also reap what I sow. Free loving here!

I know the title of this post doesn't really fit as it is already October. Yes  but it is a new start for me! Yes a good one in fact.                                                                                                                              Making the decision to stay single was the best decision I made in the past year. Being single is no problem for me, it is whether you are still in love with your ex boyfriend that is the problem. And I assure you that ain't a problem for me too

I can't believe it is the new year already! I can't believe I'm all 'grown up' now! oh man, it hasn't sunk it yet but when it does, it is gonna be a reality check and shock for me!

Weird feeling of not being welcome on New Year's Eve:

When you are unwelcome or at least not when you aren't welcomed with open arms, you would feel like a fool. But you just wanna ignore those signs and vibes and 'invite yourself over'. Sometimes i wish I can be one of those naive, happy go lucky person who doesn't get the 'msg' and just go ahead and tag along people/person that i want to spend time with. You know be a little thick-skinned.  Especially when it is with family or people whom you love or are close to.

Hate that feeling, especially when you are not welcomed by the one who is supposed to love you and never abandon you. Yeah I mean it is true that everyone needs time alone. I cherish my alone time a lot too and i feel everyone, be it your family, bf/gf, other significant half or best friend should and must have enough time for themselves. But when it is a special occasion like new year's eve or your birthday which are occasions when you are supposed to spend time with your loved ones...can't the person in question just put aside everything else to spend quality time with the people who matter most. Ok sure you can go meet your friends or hang out and do whatever you want, but why would there be a problem for your loved one/s to join in the fun too? It's a special occasion! Is bet your friends or etc would welcome everyone especially when it is someone/people who matter to you.

Ok maybe not always, but how about times when I am bored or just lonely and have nowhere to go (eg. locked out), can't I just hang out with my loved one/s during those times, despite of whatever he/she is doing at that time or who he/she is hanging out with?

I don't know. This is just one of those rants I do out of impulse, hoping to release my emotions right here and now. But I never felt so lonely or unwelcome on New Year's Eve before. But thanks to my good old buddies and parents, I had a great new year's eve nonetheless. Sometimes you find love and comfort in the most unexpected places and people.

Finally, Happy new year to all my friends and family , my moo moo and myself! My new year's resolution: don't look back, move forward and seek the happiness and adventures I've always wanted growing up!!

A role model?
Do you have one? Now, take some time to think about this person. Is she your mother, grand parent, a stranger, a sibling, your teacher or the tuckshop vendor at your primary school? Why do you consider him/her a role model? Is it because of the idea you have of him/her, the things they preach or because of their actions? Do their actions define them or are they one of those people who do not walk the 'talk'?

I have been having a lot of thoughts about this subject, especially when it revolves around religion and the upbringing of children. I am a Christian and I do agree with the teachings of the bible. I do strongly support the spreading of the gospel even if it entails merely preaching. However, what puzzles and frustrates me most are the people who keep using God's name in vain. They seem to use God as an answer to EVERYTHING, even when it doesn't make sense for them to use God in that particular situation. I always find people who use the same ONE answer to everything somewhat unreliable and untrustworthy. Don't you ever wonder why they have to keep hiding behind one answer or one idea every time they find themselves at a loss without something certain they can hang on to?

No doubt I trust God and always pray to Him for help and guidance. But there is a fine line between asking God for help while pulling your own weight and just pushing your problems aside hoping that God would give you a  miracle just because you do not even try. And please don't use God as an excuse to make things go your way. Don't jump to the conclusion that someone is 'bad' or that God wouldn't like a particular action, activity or person because really, you are the ONE(and most probably the only one) who feels that way. First of all, I strongly believe that God above all, wouldn't stereotype or be prejudice against anyone, let alone jumping to conclusions.

Eg. 1: People who pushes their burdens to God but who do not pull their own weight.
Eg. 2: Self-righteous people who tries to play God by judging others so easily and harshly when the true teachings of God are to love , accept and forgive.
Eg. 3: People who blame others without taking a look at themselves.

I guess it is pretty easy to fall into any of the three categories mentioned above. At least I know that I am guilty of all three! LOL. My point in sharing this is just to make people (whoever reads this, most probably only Rachel haha) aware that actions really do speak louder than words and that the best way to prove your point or to spread your ideals/values is to just set an example personally by actions on a daily basis instead of preaching about it and judging others.

This is much easier said than done. It would take more than a mere moment of enlightenment to put whatever I shared into action. Firstly, it requires an open mind to be able to accept new perspectives and it takes even more time and experience to understand those perspectives and eventually  respecting them. It took me years to be able to see things from this point of view. I must say that my mind has widened a a lot since the teenager I was just a couple of years back.

However, although I still keep many of my previous ideals and beliefs from when I was a child. I must say that experiences really do mature you and increase your knowledge. Experience also makes you wiser (for most people at least..I hope haha). Thus, I don't see maturity coming with age, but maturity coming with experience coupled with the willingness to learn new things and to accept the different. I have come a long way and I have an even longer way to go so ...... CHEERIOS to me!!!

For the next subject I want to blog about under the same title, "Set by example, not words" would be about parents and their expectations of their children. So stay tuned!!!

Hello blog! It's been say almost 2 years since I last blogged? lol If not, it must have been almost 2 years since my first blog.

A lot have happened since I turned 21, 2 years on, many ups and downs. Last year was a super depressing year for me as it was my first time entering 'Society' and was trying to find what I wanted to do in life and my dad was hospitalized for almost 8 months. By the grace and love of Jesus Christ, he is still here today :D.

This year started on a good note. I love my part time job at Playdays and also enjoying giving tuition. I also made plans to pursue my degree.

And yes I guess for the first time in my  romantic life, I was willing to give my heart a chance and to free fall into the unknown instead of holding back and constantly worry about the negatives a relationship/romance would bring. I decided to focus on the potential and the basis of a relationship: love for once. Though I am still learning, but I feel so much better being this way. I feel like a big burden lifted up my shoulders now that I am willing to try and to not be afraid to learn from experiences because that is the only way I can grow emotionally and as a person.

500 days of summer.

Yes.

Uh hmmm.

That is right.

It is DEFINITELY not your usual romantic comedy nor love story that pulls at your heart strings the whole time in order to stimulate that few tricklets or tears.

However, it is one of the most honest, realistic, witty and yet independently artistic films of the year that I have watched.
For those of you who have been in the know of indie films or have done your fair share of research on this film before it was screened, you would definitely be entertained at a very satisfactory level by the movie.

But for the mainstream viewer who does not really lean towards movies of the indie persuasion, you might find this film just a little too heart breaking and the dialogue and presentation a complete surprise, hopefully a pleasant one though.

Yes, I might be an Indie buff but I do love the happy endings as well, at least happy in the scenario where BOY meets GIRL, falls in LOVE and live HAPPILY EVERAFTER.
Having said that, viewing from the romantic's point of view, I can totally understand the heartbreak!

Tom and Summer were just the perfect couple. How often do two young singles meet in an office elevator while one listens to BOTH their favourite band on his ipod LOUD enough for the girl to hear. And yes, just like the caption under my facebook Display Picture, The Smiths were the matchmaker. How coincidental can that get, considering that The Smiths are not exactly the most popular band on mainstream radio today. What can I say, a great inspirational match maker then.

Although the introduction to this film has its narrator explicitly quoting:" this is not a movie about love", in reality, it really is just the opposite.
500 days of summer depicts clearly but subtlely the mentality of the young ones about love today. It also brings you on a ride through the journey of struggles faced by the minority but a large enough population of females who just want to enjoy falling in love but not being in love(a.k.a love doesn't exist). Most of you would think that most men think that way and that their mentalities and attitudes would only change when they are most probably in their mid-30s when they finally want to settle down. But Summer here, just in her 20's already does not believe in the notion of everlasting love.

However, we all know she fell in love with Tom and vise verse, not to mention madly and passionately. But I guess it was just the "right person" at the "wrong time" which still ends up in a break up.

Nevertheless, Tom's original ideals of "the perfect one" that were almost so completely crushed and wiped out from his heart and mind were once again rekindled and reinforced by that very same Summer(pun intended for the GIRL and the SEASON) who broke his heart.
Not only did she find love and most importantly the belief of true everlasting love and the commitment that comes with it through her relationship with Tom, Summer also helped Tom realise that sometimes what you think is best for you might just not be what you are looking for. That in itself is love. Real modern day urban love with an extremely romantic and sincere after taste.

Love happens all the time, anywhere, everywhere. But truly it is coincidence or that fateful moment when you or the other person decides to grab the opportunity that really gives LOVE a place and space to grow.

It takes two hands to clap, if one doesn't feel the same way towards you or doesn't want the same outcome as you, it is no use forcing love. It just is sometimes.

However, having said that, never give up when it comes to love. I still feel that there was this loving connection between Tom and Summer after their break up(the last part of the movie where Summer placed her hand above his on the bench). Maybe if he had done something during that fateful party(at the end part of the show), Tom could have been the one receiving Summer at the end of the isle on her wedding day.

Then again, that is just my speculation.

After all, it is not true that what Tom and Summer shared wasn't true love, it is just the wrong timing and the differing mentalities of the chance at love they both had at that time that broke Tom's and along with him all the audiences' hearts.

In fact the love between these two indie music lovers is one of the rare, genuine love stories that most people never ever get to experience.

Maybe that is why a love as real as that never really made it to being THE ONE you are looking for, it is too precious and fragile, it just is and should just stay that way, only for those special moments in life.

This love, this passion which everyone longs for but that doesn't last a lifetime becomes bittersweet memories that would linger in the depths of our heart forever.
Not a bad idea. When love is always the ideal while companionship is commitment.

Movie presentation, cinematography, artistic direction, script writing and music production : at least 4/5 for ratings.

This brings me to my last point, Soundtrack of this movie would be further discussed in my next journal entry!
